What does the County Treasurer do and why does it matter?

The County Treasurer is the custodian of all the county monies and is responsible for safeguarding those monies and investing any available resources to increase revenue within the safeguards put in place by the state legislature. In addition, one of the biggest tasks of the County Treasurer is to serve as the tax collector for the county, collecting property taxes, vehicle taxes, and other taxes distributed by the State then working with the county Auditor to make sure the funds are available and distributed to the varying agencies that receive tax dollars.

Below are just some of the tasks the Treasurer's office is responsible for:

  • PROPERTY/PERSONAL TAX COLLECTION
  • ANNUAL TAX SALE
  • MOBILE HOME TRANSFERS
  • LIQUOR CLEARANCES
  • MANAGE ALL COUNTY BANK ACCOUNTS
  • COUNTY DEPT BANKING SERVICES
  • CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER FOR THE COUNTY
